![]() BRRRR, cold one this morning...since my Tauntaun decided to crap out on me, I guess it's time to write an entry and throw this notion of the law of accelerating returns out there. In the world of AI (artificial intelligence) this is pretty hot topic right now, and if you're a bigger dork than I am, you'll def wanna spend the next 8 hours reading how one day your Garmin will race your bike for you, all you'll have to do is holler and drink beer. For the sake of time, try to get on point. We keep pushing our sponsors to help us bring you a race that's worthy of your time and commitment to the sport. And, in doing so, we've double-checked our calculations when considering bumping your payouts and distributing awesome swag. Proof is in the ipa... or something like that. Looking back at the inaugural 2005 Cedar Hill Crit, it was a sheer miracle we promoted a bicycle race. For all our efforts, the lack of any significant social media (Facebook was <1yr old and there was no such thing as tweeting)....for all intents and purposes, we were better off getting folks to our race if we went to your race and dropped some flyers (which we still do btw lol). In 2005, there were 163 racers, of which 18% (n=9) were ladies who raced (albeit those ladies were and still are, BADASS).....cool...initially we din't intend for this to be a women's specific entry, but hell, let's go that way, 'cause we do love our ladies that race, and want you ladies to bring your best game when you come here and pin a number on. Let's take a little deeper run down the history and data rabbit hole:
The Payouts? 2005 - We'll get to that in a moment. 2013 - P123, $400 5-deep. Solid. In 2013, we actually ran a higher payout for the Women's 123 race than for the Men's 123 (totally true - click thru for the proof!) and was only in the last hours that this one dude said, "okay okay, let's pay the dudes too"...he of House of Tree-Racing, that dude ;) Otherwise, '13 p/o's would have been heavily lopsided in favor of the ladies. 2014 - P123, $1,000 10-deep, +(4) $100 primes. That's more than a healthy bump. Right. Back to 2005. TBH, I have no earthly clue what we provided in 2005...probably something really cool and expensive like tubes, that weren't blown, more likely though, beer, which like gold, never loses its significance in the world of precious commodities. Agreed, our N is a still a little small right now, but we're off to a good start. 3 years. 3 races ('05,'13, '14), and here's what we have. For the ladies payouts, we've progressed from, tubes, to $400, to $1,000. That's about as Law of Accelerating Returns as I can make this. Increasing and exponential growth over time; at this rate, the 2020 race will be $1 meeeeelion dollars. Factor 2015 in and to be much more scientific, what MLP commonly refers to as the Law of Stacking dat Cheddah. For the sake of time and for the woman who likes to bend pedals, chick dudes, and could care less about such things Asimov, but does want a badass competitive race weekend in 2015 that's hard as nails with wide open & safe roads - here's what you need to know:

Each podium winner wins a set of....Ok, before we go full BW on you (or scroll down for the cheddah), please read this brief blog entry from our newest sponsor, HearingPlanet: "Going to the Big Game? Bring Ear Plugs! As the saying goes, nothing says “America” like baseball and apple pie. And football and basketball too, for that matter. There’s nothing like being packed in a stadium with 50,000 or so of your closest friends, united in your love for the home team. One potential dangerous element of these sporting events, however, is the crowd noise. Earlier this fall, the Seattle Seahawks and the Kansas City Chiefs each broke the Guinness world record for crowd noise, at 136dB and 137dB, respectively. For comparison sake, the sound of a jet engine from 100 feet away is about 140dB. At volumes like that, even a very short exposure can cause irreversible damage to your hearing. " *Dang. (b) More dough for the Masters (c) We have discovered the fountain of youth, and it tastes a lot like beer. ![]() Rocking our new executive business sweatpants at work today, here's our 2015 Cedar Hill Crit top 3 resolutions for you:
A healthy carrot to help get you thru this miserable January - Cedar Hill on Sun. April 12th: Monday, Jan. 5th. - back to reality for many folks who've been enjoying Grannie's Christmas cookies, beer and cheese log. Pants feel a little snug this morning. Since it's post holiday Monday, and folks are dying to do anything but focus on working, here's a quick rundown of what folks are committing to for the 20 fifteen:
There were some other doozies out there in space, but we felt these more than likely represented many of you in bicycle land. Back to the salt mines for eerryone - but for now those are the basics. More details coming soon, and pre-reg will be up shortly....and since no else is looking - go ahead, finish off those chocolate snowballs, we won't tell.

Well, now that the 2014 TBRA road season is in the books, safe to mention these two things as we go to the fridge..
There's so much awesome happening within the Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association right now. Tons of exciting new events and cool new race series across the state, all of which are complimenting those established, hard as nails events that have been here since Pops took Methuselah to the line at the 800BC State RR. The take home? Folks are racing their bikes in Tennessee. A lot. On that note, please oblige us this friendly PSA: 1. Racers, please thank your promoters, buy a volunteer a beer sometime, and be please be mindful of the communities that support your races. 2. Please patronize the local bike shops and support their brands. 3. Beer makers. Please make more beer. We will drink this. Thanks, especially number 3. Some final notes before we say goodbye to the 2014 Cedar Hill Criterium: There were: #47 participants who completed the FREE Cedar Hill intro to Racing & Skills Clinic #10 participants who completed the FREE Cedar Hill Beginner's Race #45 total Juniors that raced for FREE #53 total Women raced for EQUAL PAYOUT Without question the intro. to racing and skills clinic was impactful. We're thankful to have great community support from our partners at the Madison-Rivergate Chamber of Commerce and Volkswagen of Cool Springs to help us support this clinic, and we're pleased to announce we will have the same format as 2014. 1/2 day clinic, USAC coaching, a 2-lap beginners race w/in-race Mentors. Unicorns, rainbows and skittles. ALL FREE. #SHAZAM Additionally, The Cedar Hill Criterium continues to host some of Tennessee's largest competitive fields, especially for the Women and the Juniors. Ladies, we will continue to provide equal pain and equal payouts. Invite your friends, you'll be racing for the same cheddar that the dudes race for. Juniors - you're racing for some great swag again. Parents, Jr races are FREE! There was also a google of kids, dropping sugar-induced watt bombs; happening again, BYOK. Lastly, and since we're over-caffeinated and being neurotic, one last nose into the total numbers, to see how the Cedar Hill Criterium stacked-up against some of the regions larger events in 2014.
Athens - #670 Roswell - #496 Sunny King - #471 Dilworth - #319 Delray Twilight - #364 Cedar Hill - #398 #SHAZAM! That's some pretty lofty company! We're proud that racers find the Cedar Hill Criterium worthy enough to get us in the same conversation as some of these monster events. For 2015 we're committed to bringing the same exciting event and festivities, while adding in some really cool and fun new elements that will make your #HEADSPLODE. Yes. There may be cranium-plosion, just depends upon whether or not we can convince the man that no one will goto jail...that's all you get for now. More details soon -but for now, this is what you N2K:
125 days to go. Have another donut. The 2014 Cedar Hill Criterium was a tremendous success this year. Since then, your friendly neighborhood promoter and event crew have been very busy tidying up drone footage and drinking lots of beer. One of those things is actually very true. Truthfully, we did attempt to capture the day's exciting race experience for you, hope you enjoy (and apologize if our drone spooked you) and would be honored if you would share the fun with your teammates, friends, and family. More importantly, it's no secret, our success starts and ends with this amazing community of people surrounding Nashville, TN. ![]() Aside from all the excitement and fun of watching people race bikes, as a race promoter, the really neat thing is on occasion you do get to meet some really special people. I've been lucky and this past year I've met more than a few. Recently I had the opportunity to discuss the really cool stuff that Tracey Pearson has created and is with Prissy Tomboy (link) "Our mission is to create a lifestyle brand that promotes athleticism and a place for girls to feel empowered, recognized, and supported through sports. " Yup, that's pretty cool in our books. Getting young minds off of the couch and disconnect from technology and reconnect with, well being a kid! -Rings true as aren't we all big kids playing on bikes? The Prissy Tomboy Ambassador program was created by Tracey Pearson to actually breathe some life into her mission statement: The Prissy Tomboy Ambassador mentoring program educates young athletes on the importance of staying in sports to fulfill their potential and strengths. We share stories of female athletes to inspire and give recognition to their accomplishments with the goal of establishing new healthy role models for girls to aspire to. ![]() Which leads us to this exciting announcement, with a little history for context. The other person who has become especially dear to us is little Ms. Eleanor Israel, or "Little E" as we affectionately refer to her. Long story short - sometime before the 2013 Cedar Hill, our event team had invited folks from the cycling community to join us for an open course day, hot laps at the park if you will. No one really showed-up that day except for Little E and her Dad. E (9 years old at the time) asked if she could tag along as she was new to cycling but had in fact completed a couple of junior triathlons. We immediately fell in love with this little girl's passion and were thrilled when she did in fact complete the 2013 Cedar Hill Criterium, racing for Trace Bikes, as her first competitive road event. Fast-forward - since then Little E has gone on to get "curved" handle-bars for her road bike (she did Cedar Hill w/bar ends), fully embracing the sport and completing more than #35 events for 2013! We're awful proud of Little E and see bright things in her future as a young lady, who knows, maybe a great sports doctor one day, or even the next President of the United States. We're convinced she can do whatever she wants if she puts her mind to it. The sky's the limit for this young lady and there is no doubt that if she keeps racing bikes, she'll be great at that too! Eleanor Israel is Nashville's #1 Prissy Tomboy Ambassador! Here's her recent interview with Prissy Tomboy!

We're asking you take a moment to learn a little more about the exciting work Prissy Tomboy is doing by reading the following: "As the founder of Prissy Tomboy Athletics, I would like to share my story and why I chose to pursue this initiative. As both a mother and sport enthusiast, I have noticed that preteen to teen girls are dropping out of sports at an alarming rate. Physical education budgets have been decreasing and there are less athletic opportunities offered through schools, especially for girls. I have spoken to many girls on why they would rather spend hours on their phones or computer screens instead of breaking a sweat outside and have an adventure, and the overall answer is that playing outside is boring. Girls have found another way to connect through technology and social media rather than playing a sport or just meeting outside to hang out. With the pressures from peers and media they have fostered a fear of not being good enough or not wearing the right clothes. We live in a culture that gives less attention to healthy, athletic women and more to superficial standards and ideals. With the lack of sports or attention to health, we now see more childhood obesity, bullying, eating disorders, suicide, low self-confidence and overall unhappiness of young girls. This is when I decided take a stance and created Prissy Tomboy Athletics. Our mission is to create a lifestyle brand that promotes athleticism and a place for girls to feel empowered, recognized, and supported through sports. We...." Hit this link to read on! A portion of the proceeds from the 2013 Cedar Hill Criterium AND the 2013 Keep Calm Race Cross events go directly to supporting these great kids and this awesome new league. We hope you'll make a donation too! And if you have a teenager who wants to race - sign 'em up! The Tennessee High School Cycling League was organized in 2012 to provide competitive mountain biking programs for students in grades 9 to 12. With the cooperation of local race organizers, our partners, and our sponsors we are able to provide a high quality mountain racing experience. We believe that mountain biking is the ‘T-Ball’ of cycling. Regardless of ability level, the Tennessee League is committed to providing a positive experience for all student-athletes. Matt Fritzinger, a teacher at Berkeley High, founded the NorCal League with the 2001 NorCal High School Mountain Bike Racing Series. As the coach of the Berkeley High team he saw that a school team could succeed, but that competition would be required for it to thrive. In the first series mountain bikers from schools all over Northern California answered the call and came to compete as semi-organized high school teams. Now well over 50 California schools offer well organized mountain bike programs and is spreading to states all over. The Tennessee League is committed to teaching safe riding practices. We believe forming high school teams is the best way for students to learn how to ride safely. To learn safe riding technique or learn how to teach these skills, join our next rider camp or coaches conference.
