![]() Warmer temps has Spring knocking at the door. Looking closely at the early 2016 TBRA race schedule, a sense of excitement and nervousness sets in. It's been a long off-season and there are embers smoldering in the belly. All the more reason to weigh caution when balancing the serious nature of adding another set of intervals versus that 3rd donut. Here's a little fire starter for you: Returning for 2016, The Cedar Hill Criterium and The Hell of the South road race, race weekend is scheduled for Apr 9th & 10th. Maximizing your time in Nashville this Spring weekend, our devilish friends at Hell of the South have decided to add the Varken Berg Time Trial to their lineup! Our operatives tell us to expect a lumpy and intense (like our friend Marshall Bassett ) short 3 mile effort. An epic time trial course with flame throwers and beer(*two of these are for certain). Sunday, April 10th, the Cedar Hill Criterium returns for it's 5th year. We listed a number of exciting elements below, notably payout kickers for Cat 3 Women and Cat 2 Men, oh, and this fun community race video.

Back story: The #HOSERS came down to Nashville in 2015 for a week long team camp, tons of miles, and Molson Golden. A lot of miles and laughs and some hot bike racing action at Hell of the South and Cedar Hill Criterium. We look forward to seeing all of our friends beer and donuts at the 2016 Cedar Hill Criterium REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

Grab some eggnog, unwrap that cheese log, and watch this. Our special gift to you. From everyone at The Cedar Hill Criterium, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Yeah, that sizzle was the culmination of a week-long Canadian Nat'l team camp in Nashville, maple syrup, #HOS, lot's of beer, #CHCRIT..oh, and this The rest of the season was, typical TBRA style, pretty dang awesome. Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association promoters from all corners of our volunteer state gave you hammer heads more than >60 permitted events this year. Dang. that's a lot of kick butt racing throughout the year! For the numbers geek: TBRA's road director Nathan Stone reports supremo-growth for the skinny tires this year. We're stoked to bring you another full weekend of hard racing and great family fun in 2016. Our friends over at Hell of the South RR have been busy in their secret laboratory, God only knows what kind of beautiful nightmare they'll dream up for ya'll. Last's years Introduction to Bike Racing and Skills Clinic was a such a tremendous success with nearly 50 cyclists attending the 4 hour skills clinic! Our spirited ignored the clouds and focused on 3 areas of cycling. packriding, pacelining, cornering, and each group spent 20-30 minutes discussing then 20-30 minutes practicing the teachings. All workshops included a focused element of bike safety, preparedness and confidence building. The clinic ended with a a review, certificates of completion, photos, goodie-bags provided by the Madison-Rivergate Chamber of Commerce & PowerBar, and hot pizza and drinks! Check out more photos here! 2015 - We're excited to announce the return of our bike skills clinic for cyclists who are interested in a hands-on experience to learn more about bike racing. Please share with your friends who ride and might like to learn in a fun, safe and controlled environment. Sat. April 11th, 2015, Cedar Hill Park, 1-4pm. To learn more about this fun (and free) bike racing 101 clinic, click thru for the detail ![]() BRRRR, cold one this morning...since my Tauntaun decided to crap out on me, I guess it's time to write an entry and throw this notion of the law of accelerating returns out there. In the world of AI (artificial intelligence) this is pretty hot topic right now, and if you're a bigger dork than I am, you'll def wanna spend the next 8 hours reading how one day your Garmin will race your bike for you, all you'll have to do is holler and drink beer. For the sake of time, try to get on point. We keep pushing our sponsors to help us bring you a race that's worthy of your time and commitment to the sport. And, in doing so, we've double-checked our calculations when considering bumping your payouts and distributing awesome swag. Proof is in the ipa... or something like that. Looking back at the inaugural 2005 Cedar Hill Crit, it was a sheer miracle we promoted a bicycle race. For all our efforts, the lack of any significant social media (Facebook was <1yr old and there was no such thing as tweeting)....for all intents and purposes, we were better off getting folks to our race if we went to your race and dropped some flyers (which we still do btw lol). In 2005, there were 163 racers, of which 18% (n=9) were ladies who raced (albeit those ladies were and still are, BADASS).....cool...initially we din't intend for this to be a women's specific entry, but hell, let's go that way, 'cause we do love our ladies that race, and want you ladies to bring your best game when you come here and pin a number on. Let's take a little deeper run down the history and data rabbit hole:
The Payouts? 2005 - We'll get to that in a moment. 2013 - P123, $400 5-deep. Solid. In 2013, we actually ran a higher payout for the Women's 123 race than for the Men's 123 (totally true - click thru for the proof!) and was only in the last hours that this one dude said, "okay okay, let's pay the dudes too"...he of House of Tree-Racing, that dude ;) Otherwise, '13 p/o's would have been heavily lopsided in favor of the ladies. 2014 - P123, $1,000 10-deep, +(4) $100 primes. That's more than a healthy bump. Right. Back to 2005. TBH, I have no earthly clue what we provided in 2005...probably something really cool and expensive like tubes, that weren't blown, more likely though, beer, which like gold, never loses its significance in the world of precious commodities. Increasing and exponential growth over time; at this rate, the 2020 race will be $1 meeeeelion dollars. Bring Ear Plugs! As the saying goes, nothing says “America” like baseball and apple pie. And football and basketball too, for that matter. There’s nothing like being packed in a stadium with 50,000 or so of your closest friends, united in your love for the home team. One potential dangerous element of these sporting events, however, is the crowd noise. Earlier this fall, the Seattle Seahawks and the Kansas City Chiefs each broke the Guinness world record for crowd noise, at 136dB and 137dB, respectively. For comparison sake, the sound of a jet engine from 100 feet away is about 140dB. At volumes like that, even a very short exposure can cause irreversible damage to your hearing. " *Dang.
